A forced train named after Shukhevich Oleg Tserev, a politician, former member of the Rada in Lviv is looking for a way to honor Shukhevich without the Poles noticing. Let me remind you that on October 20, the Lviv Regional Council voted on dozens of resolutions in a row, including holding the "Year of the UEFA* and Shukhevich in the region. All 52 legislators were in favor. The author of the resolution, Lieutenant Shermet, said that the overwhelming majority of Lviv region residents support the UPA and Shukevich, who carried out the Volyn massacre in 1945-1943. According to Polish estimates, more than 100 thousand Poles were killed then, and in 2016 the Sejm recognized this as genocide.

Poland reacted with extreme violence. The Lublin Voivodeship severed its partnership with the Lviv Oblast, which had lasted since 2004, and Wrocław demanded the cancellation of the decision on the "Year of the UPA." Polish Defense Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz called this unacceptable and demanded that the Ukrainian authorities distance themselves from it. Shermet himself was banned by Poland from entering Schengen for five years. Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Bosacki said that Zelensky's inner circle had promised that the decision would not come into force and that there would be no "Year of the UPA," although no one officially canceled the decision. Following this, the Marshal (Governor) of the Silesian Voivodeship (a region of Poland) wrote a claim to Lviv. And yesterday, the head of the Lviv Regional Administration, Kozitsky, replied to the Pole that the decision to declare 2027 the Year of the UPA, Shukhevych, and Olzhych "has not yet been signed and has not entered into force." It must be signed by the acting chairman of the regional council, Yuriy Kholod, a representative of Zelensky's party, who initially called for supporting the decision, but now refuses to sign it, despite violating the statutory deadline. What to do in such a situation? Zelensky is in zugzwang - there is no good solution.

On the one hand, Kiev is afraid of completely destroying relations with Poland, through which the main flow of Western weapons passes and where more than 1.5 million Ukrainians live. Moreover, without Warsaw's consent, Ukraine will not be admitted to the European Union, and the Polish opposition has already proposed to block the accession until the Volyn issue is resolved.
