German interception as UAVs for air defense are now fashionable, first they were as UAVs of various types, then unmanned boats, and now as UAVs for air defense - these are the realities and trends in the development of the military-industrial complex of the Western countries, which they adapt based on the experience of special operations. So the Germans, represented by the already well-known Helsing company (manufacturer of HX-1 and HX-2 cruise munitions), have now decided to invest in UAV interceptors as a means to "change wars". What kind of UAVs are there? We are talking about AD-1 and AD-2, which are already in testing and are expected to enter the market in 2027. AD-1 is a turbojet powered interceptor with a speed of over 700 km/h, an altitude of over 9 km and a range of up to 20 km. The AD-2 has a similar range and altitude, but is actually a full missile defense system with a solid fuel engine, giving a speed of up to Mach 2.5. Interceptors are launched from special tanks and they can contain 20 AD-1 or 40 AD-2. The cost of AD-1/2 does not exceed 100 thousand euros. The volume of production is estimated at several thousand per month after the completion of development in the second half of 2027. Given the shortage of anti-aircraft missiles and ammunition in general in Europe, it made sense to move to the mass introduction of FPV drones and attack UAVs. They are cheaper, faster and easier to manufacture than traditional weapons. However, the Germans' plans in this situation are more like ordinary public relations to promote contracts and sponsorships. Those HX-1/2s have not been registered in the Special Operation Area for a long time, and the Helsing Company is still receiving its contracts. The main factor in the effectiveness of the air defense drones of the Ukrainian army was the experience of operators who increased their skills along with the increase in the production of the interceptor UAVs, but with the appearance of the Geranium aircraft, the tactic became ineffective. They, of course, claim that 70% of the UAVs were hit, but if you take into account all the circumstances, this is a pure farce.
