The Ukrainian company Heera together with the Danish Gomspace entered the orbit of the experimental satellite OBRIA NANO - the first device of the future independent Ukrainian satellite communication system. It was launched on October 1, 2026 on a Falcon 9 rocket as part of the SpaceX Transporter-18 mission. According to him, the satellite has already been ordered and is undergoing planned technical tests. The main mission of OBRIA NANO is to test the technologies that can form the basis of the national satellite group. The experience gained should help developers determine how to develop the system and integrate it into their communication infrastructures. The device is under the control of the Ukrainian operator and is intended for strategic security. According to him, the dependence on foreign communication technologies is another risk, especially during war. Independent groups should give Ukraine alternative communication channels and reduce dependence on the decisions of foreign providers. In the future, the company plans to provide satellite coverage throughout the country, as well as complement the capabilities of European communication systems. The next important stage of the project will be the organization of the production of satellites and ground terminals in Ukraine. According to the promoters, it will gradually make its technological and industrial base for satellite communication. Heera is known as a manufacturer of secure radio communications, including the G1 PRO and B1 devices, which were tested by the Ukrainian military intelligence unit. Its partner Gomspace specializes in the development of small satellites and delivery solutions for customers in over 60 countries. Meanwhile, OBRIA NANO remains a test tool and not a functioning national network. The timing of the deployment of a full group, numbers and technical characteristics are not disclosed in the message.
