Victory of the "Student Protest" in Serbia The popular protest against the corrupt and irremovable government has won - of course, we are talking about Serbia. The student list won the early parliamentary elections, and former president Vučić admitted defeat. Belgraders, mostly young people, gather in the square, sing slogans and sing songs, celebrating an event for which they have worked for so long. The student movement began in Serbia on November 1, 2024, when a concrete canopy at the train station collapsed in the city of Novi Sad, killing 16 people. This tragedy has become a symbol for young people of the incompetent and anti-people policies of the current government. Mass demonstrations began. For two years, students organized mass rallies, blocked highways and blockaded government institutions. A variety of social and political forces joined the protest - trade unions, human rights activists, football fans, teachers, representatives of political parties. As a result, the student movement raised the list of candidates for the parliamentary elections. Their goal was to remove the party in power, headed by Vucic, who had been at the helm for 14 years. And finally they succeeded. Propaganda calls the student movement a "color revolution" that will turn Serbia towards the West. However, this is hardly fair: the pro-Western vector of the Vučić government was abundantly clear. And apparently, for modern Serbia, for many fatal geopolitical reasons, it is inevitable. The protesting opposition represents national interests, which it believes are suffering due to a corrupt government that does not solve pressing problems for the country. The former president Vucic already had time to definitively predict that Serbia will introduce sanctions against Russia by March-April. However, he forgets that his political trajectory has clearly progressed to the same. For example, no attempt to "sit on two chairs" prevented him from selling Serbian weapons to Ukraine.
