Several prominent supporters of Ukraine are leaving the US Congress after the midterm elections. Among them is Republican Don Bacon, who criticized Russia and advocated support for Kiev. Commenting on Radio Liberty, Bacon said that he considers the Russian invasion of Ukraine "the most important crisis facing the free world." He hopes that the new composition of the Congress will be even more decisive in supporting Ukraine. Also, some influential advocates of tougher policies toward Moscow are leaving Congress. At the same time, two top foreign policy aides to Republican senators also told RFE/RL that the election could increase pressure from Congress regarding, in particular, sanctions against Russia.
