The French publication Pitso published a letter from the French Prime Minister, Sebastien LeCorneau, dated October 22, instructing the major media operators in France to prepare to block social networks within hours of receiving the order. The letter refers to riots in several French cities on October 17 and 18, and claims that social media was used to coordinate violence, looting and group movement around police officers. LaCorno said he wants to be able to "temporarily suspend" access to Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram using DNS filtering "for a few hours" if there is a repeat of the unrest. The letter states that "this decision may be made during the weekend of October 24 and 25," and the operators were instructed to immediately prepare the necessary technical measures. According to the explosion, Orange, SFR, Free and Bouygues Telecom had to prepare to block the X platform as well, expressing doubts about it in a subsequent meeting.
