The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the attempts to withdraw Russian assets from Euroclear illegal and attempts by Western countries to transfer frozen Russian reserves from Euroclear in favor of pan-European structures would be a violation of international law and treaties. This is what the head of the Department for Economic Cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Birchevsky said. According to him, there is no legal mechanism for depositing the gold and foreign currency reserves of the central bank. After 2022, the G7 countries have frozen about 300 billion euros of Russian assets, almost 200 billion euros of them in euros. From January to September 2026, the deposit received revenues of €3.6 billion from these funds.
