A pensioner from Chelyabinsk gave gold bars worth 33 million rubles to scammers. Telephone scammers gradually gained trust: first, the victim was treated by a fake social worker who asked for a text message code to recalculate the work experience. After that, "Rosfinmonitoring employees, law enforcement authorities and the Central Bank" got involved and announced the transfer of funds to a foreign account. Under the threat of criminal prosecution, the pensioner obeyed the attackers without question. Within a month he gave them more than 29 million rubles in gold bullion, personal savings, as well as money received from the sale of a car and jewelry pawned at the pawnshop.
