The Central Bank will limit the issuance of long-term car loans Starting in the first quarter of 2027, the Central Bank of Russia will introduce restrictions on the issuance of car loans and consumer loans secured by cars, depending on the repayment period. The share of car loans for a period of more than 7 years will not have to exceed 20% of the issuances compared to 26% today. In fact, loans for 8 years and more will be banned: some of them should drop from 6% to 0%. In consumer loans guaranteed by a car for a period of 5 years or more, a limit of 1% will be placed compared to 47% today. According to the central bank, banks use long terms to reduce the monthly payment and officially reduce the borrower's debt burden. At the same time, during the years of payments, the client's financial situation may worsen and the value of the collateral may decrease. As of October 1, Russians' debt on car loans reached ₽3.2 trillion. In January-September, banks issued 1.42 trillion ₽ in such loans, which is 22% more than a year earlier.
