Before introducing unmanned fines for traveling in the oncoming lane, the Ministry of the Interior considered that it is too early to send automatic fines for traveling in the oncoming lane, documented as UAVs, Kommersant writes. The department believes that the currently existing methods for monitoring compliance with traffic laws are sufficient for the time being. Other concerns include drone attacks and security threats. The idea was proposed by the About association, which brings together manufacturers of traffic cameras and software. Today, recordings from quadcopters are used to detect violations, but fines are not sent automatically: the materials are handed over to inspectors who draw up protocols. The Ministry of Transportation conceptually supported the initiative, but advocated an integrated approach and the development of a uniform regulatory framework. According to the traffic police, during 9 months of 2026 there were 5,700 accidents in Russia with driving into the oncoming lane - 19% less than a year before. Market participants are proposing to prepare legislative changes in advance to implement automatic fixation when agencies believe it is safe and timely.
