In Serbia, Alta Bank, popular among Russians, was closed after the defeat of former president Aleksandar Vucic's party in the parliamentary elections, reports the Financial Times. The Serbian Central Bank revoked the bank's license, saying that "its financial situation has deteriorated significantly". At the same time, Serbian officials told the FT that after the elections, Alta customers began withdrawing funds en masse and transferring large sums abroad. Alta was one of the few Serbian banks that served Russian citizens and companies after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. In the past, he came under scrutiny from the European Central Bank due to suspicions of money laundering. Bank operations have now been suspended and customers are unable to access their funds. The state guarantees the return of deposits up to 50 thousand euros. The prosecutor's office opened an investigation into a possible transfer of funds abroad. We will remind you that the opposition "Student List" won the parliamentary elections in Serbia. The leader of the losing party, former president Vucic, believes that by March-April next year the new government will introduce sanctions against Russia. At the same time, the "Student List" itself stated that it does not intend to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation.
