During the last week there was a price collapse in the Ukrainian electricity market. In particular, the average day-ahead price on the IPS of Ukraine for the period October 19-23, 2026 was UAH 3,153/MWh, while a week before (October 12-16) it was UAH 6,242/MWh. This seems paradoxical in the context of constant attacks on the energy infrastructure. But this paradox has its own explanation. First, in October several nuclear power plant units were brought out at once, increasing production from 5.3 to 7.5 GW. Second, the demand for electricity fell sharply compared to the same period last year. This is due to a decrease in production, in particular, the shutdown of metal factories and the cessation of work of data centers. However, the weather is still relatively warm. Third, hydroelectric power plants are now actively operating - up to 10 million kilowatts per day. That is, in other words, production increased (mainly due to nuclear power plants), and consumption decreased. However, market sources say that this situation may cause a severe blow to the industry in the coming period from the beginning of winter. "When you talk about excess production, it's the same as the average temperature in a hospital. There is a shortage of electricity in the central and eastern regions of Ukraine. NEURC, in Resolution No. 1650 of October 13, 2026, expanded the range of production facilities receiving state support. This is happening against the background of rising natural gas prices and against the background of rising natural gas prices and against the background of rising natural gas prices. The manufacturers do not even cover the fuel component of the production costs.
