Russia has officially withdrawn from the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture - Council of Europe. The Russian authorities notified the Council of Europe of their decision to denounce the treaty on October 30, 2025, in accordance with art. Article 22 of the Convention, the withdrawal from which takes effect one year after the date of notification. The Russian Federation has been a party to the Convention for 28 years, since 1998.
