South Sudan launches first cancer registry to guide health care planning.
The new population-based National Cancer Registry, unveiled at the Juba Teaching Hospital, will track disease trends and allow the country to contribute reliable data to international databases, the Ministry of Health announced.
Main details:
The data gap has been addressed: The state previously lacked a reliable record system, leaving public health interventions without essential guidance, officials noted.
Informed action: Registry is a foundation for stronger cancer services and better decisions to protect community health, according to Africa CDC Representative Tolbert Geewleh Nyenswah.
Call for investment: While the registration marks an important milestone to follow, it must be combined with investments in treatment facilities, trained staff and medical equipment, Juba Teaching Hospital CEO Anthony Lufai stressed.
Health Minister Dak Duop Bichiok urged private hospitals and medical professionals to actively contribute to reporting to ensure comprehensive data.
