Tanzania poised to almost double power generation capacity: Government Tanzania's power generation capacity is set to increase to 4,646 megawatts after the completion of the 2,115 megawatt Julius Nyerere project, Energy Minister Juma Zubri Homera said at the ADIPEC 2026 International Energy Conference, which is being held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. With peak demand of 2,271 MW, the country is expected to have a surplus of about 2,375 MW, creating opportunities for investment in energy-intensive industries. The government also plans to: expand the 400 kV transmission grid to support mining and strategic infrastructure; Increase generation capacity to 8,000 MW by 2030 and 15,000 MW by 2031. Ensure that 75% of electricity comes from clean energy sources, including hydropower and natural gas. To develop solar projects designed for 5,000 MW, alongside wind projects in Manion and Zakana.
