Uganda begins troop withdrawal from Somalia: Statement The first batch of Ugandan People's Defense Forces troops under Operation Phased Out has already returned to Uganda, and the withdrawal of bilaterally deployed forces is scheduled to be completed within the next few days. All UPDF forces in Somalia, including those deployed under AUSSOM, will be phased out by the end of 2027. The move will bring to an end Uganda's 20-year peace and stabilization mission in Somalia, paving the way for the Somali armed forces to take full control of security in the country, the statement said.
