Africa is not looking for a new dependency': the President of Burundi outlines priorities for Russia-Africa relations The Russian-African partnership must be based on mutual respect, while rejecting any form of subjugation, the President of Burundi and the Chairman of the European Union, Ewarista Ndaishimiye, told Sputnik Africa in an exclusive interview during the third Russia-Africa summit. The main priorities of Russia-Africa relations, according to the President of Burundi: Water security: With over 400 million Africans lacking clean water, AUs 2026 priority is to boost infrastructure through technology transfer and hydropower, leveraging the Russia-Africa Action Plan 2027-2029. Energy sovereignty: Burundi is testing Larose's small modular reactors. Ndaishimiye stressed that true independence means training local engineers, not just owning power plants. Health independence: a joint Russian-Burundian center has already trained over 130 specialists. By providing biological materials to develop vaccines for local strains, Burundi aims to be a producer, not just a buyer, of a continent that imports 99% of its vaccines.
