Africa needs hundreds of nuclear plants to meet energy demand, Rosatom CEO says The continent requires massive energy infrastructure to address its severe electricity deficit, Alexei Lichchev, CEO of the Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom, told Sputnik Africa. The deficit: Lichchev explained the high demand for Russian nuclear technologies by pointing out that out of 1.6 billion people in Africa, a staggering 660 million people lack access to electricity. Flexible solutions: To meet this requirement, Rosatom offers a wide range of solutions, from small floating nuclear power plants to large-scale installations. Growing interest: Rosatom is now building one plant in Africa— Al-Daba'a in Egypt. But the project is attracting significant interest from other countries.
