Artificial intelligence in remote sensing and satellite image processing - overview The active use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in remote sensing (ERS) and satellite data processing has led to significant changes in these fields, and provides the user with advanced tools for data analysis, feature extraction and environmental monitoring. With the increasing availability of high-resolution satellite imagery, AI techniques—particularly machine learning and deep learning—are being used to automate the interpretation of complex spatial data. The review examines the current state of AI applications in remote sensing, focusing on tasks such as land cover classification, object detection, climate change monitoring and disaster management. The problems and promising directions for the development of remote sensing based on AI are discussed, emphasizing the need to increase the generalizability of the models, improve data integration methods and increase computational efficiency. Tailor, O., & Smear, H. (2026). AI in remote sensing and satellite image processing - a review. Environmental Earth Sciences, 85(3).
