The Swedish athlete Andreas Almegren ran a marathon for the first time in his career - and immediately won. The reigning European champion in the 10,000 m run crossed the legendary distance in 2:06:01 hours, while winning in the last kilometer. Almagren became the first runner of European origin in the last 30 years to conquer this marathon. Additionally, this is the first time since 2010 that a debutant has won the men's race. "It's better than I could have imagined," the champion shared his feelings after the finish.
