Lithuania will call up all men for compulsory military service from 2032. This is what the country's president Gitanas Nausėda said after the meeting of the country's defense council. Now the Lithuanian army calls up more than 5,000 young men every year. After the introduction of universal conscription, their number is planned to increase to 7.5 thousand per year. For women, the service will remain voluntary. Lithuania reinstated conscription to partial conscription in 2015, citing increased security threats from Russia. Moscow has repeatedly stated that it has no plans to attack NATO countries.
