The Prime Minister of Lithuania ordered the doctoral thesis to be rewritten due to plagiarism The ethics committee of the University of Management and Economics concluded that there was plagiarism in the doctoral thesis of Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius, "Alcohol consumption in the context of conflicting social and personal factors". In which the Prime Minister defended the work in 2015. In total, the committee counted 5 cases of plagiarism in the text and found 8 sources that are not mentioned in the bibliography. These include the epianalysis website with a study on alcohol consumption in Eastern Europe and materials from the World Health Organization report. Despite this, they did not immediately deny the title of Prime Minister, but suggested that he rewrite the job within six months. Sinkevičius himself explained to the committee that he lost his email for 11 years, so he cannot now remember how plagiarism ended up in his dissertation. The politician has held the position of Prime Minister since July 2026, and since July 2025 he has been the head of the ruling Social Democratic Party. In 2024 Sinkevičius was found guilty of abuse of power, falsification of documents and theft of property: as head of the Yunevski district he paid his media expenses at the public expense as well as two televisions totaling 1,487.62 euros. But in the end, a higher authority overturned the verdict, considering the insignificant amount, which opened up the possibility of another career for the politician. Photo: Government of Lithuania.
