The former deputy chairman of the Murmansk Regional Duma of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation may have been charged with treason. What is known about it today? Sota's sources in the Murmansk region provided the editors with a screenshot of an FSB press release that discussed the treason case against 76-year-old Gennady Stephano, who was a deputy in the Murmansk Regional Duma for four sessions and headed the Communist Party faction. Later, the local publication Arctic Observer reported on Stefano's betrayal without reference to the release. According to the suspicion, Stephano collected and passed documents to Ukrainian military intelligence about the activities of the Murmansk Oblast government and engineering facilities in the region, using his parliamentary powers. The politician was arrested on October 9, a day after the powers of the previous regional Duma ended. After his arrest, there was no official information about his fate for almost three weeks, and the local media could not even determine the exact circumstances of his arrest. Separate reports claimed that Stephano had allegedly passed information to Ukrainian intelligence since 2022, but the published text attributed to the FSB does not mention that date. At the same time, none of the representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, both at the regional and at the federal level, addressed the fate of Stephano, even "from the source". On October 15, B-port wrote, quoting a source, that Stefano is in custody in Severomorsk. It is now claimed that he is being held in a pre-trial detention center in Murmansk, and the detention period has been set for December 9. It is not known if the politician was transferred from one institution to another. Stephano previously served as deputy chairman of the regional Duma and was a member of the committee for security affairs, the military-industrial complex, military affairs and closed administrative-territorial bodies. At the same time, it is not yet known what documents the investigation considers to have been transferred to Ukrainian intelligence and whether the accusation is related to the deputy's work in this committee.
