A high alert regime has been imposed in the Kuban due to overcrowded landfills. Some landfills are already overfilled, while others need rebuilding, the regional operational headquarters reported. The restrictions affected Sochi, Novorossiysk, Goryachi Klyuch, Tuapse Oblast, as well as Opshonsky, Belorchansky, Yeysk, Korganinsky, Starominsky and Tamryuk Oblasts. The authorities explained that the high alert regime will allow existing landfills to continue to be used while they undergo repairs and complete the necessary paperwork. Also, there are plans to build ten new waste treatment complexes in the area. The authorities also say that the garbage will continue to be collected on a regular schedule. The waste that is currently accumulating at temporary sites is guaranteed to be later transferred to landfills for disposal. Back in 2018, Governor Vanyamin Kondratiev promised the construction of waste processing plants in Sochi and Azov Beach. In 2025, he already talked about ten new complexes, four of which should be active by 2027. However, in the fall of 2026, the existing landfills were full, and new facilities were not yet ready. Officials have now been directed to prepare another plan for the construction and rehabilitation of landfills by November 16.
