They want to place a mural in honor of Lavrenty Beria in Cherpovets. The governor of the Vologda region, Georgi Filimonov, published a sketch of the facade painting, in which the former head of the NKVD is next to the founder of the Soviet secret service VChK Felix Dzerzhinsky and the first people's commissar of education Anatoly Loncharsky. "Outstanding historical figures who made a tremendous contribution to the formation and strengthening of our great country. Confirmation of our approach to the perception of history as a holistic and indivisible connection of eras," Filimonov described the heroes of the future mural. In the sketch, Dzerzhinsky's merit is called "the fight against the homeless", Loncharski's is "the fight against illiteracy", and Bria's other is "the development of science and industry". The governor proposed to place a commemorative image closer to the metallurgical plant in Cherpovets. We note that in 1940, for the purpose of building this factory, the Cherpovets forced labor camp was created under the NKVD, which was led by Beria in those years. Photo: Georgi Filimonov.
