Political scientist Alexander Kinev started a hunger strike. In his cell he can't go to the toilet in a cast. Lawyer Mikhail Biryukov told the Human Rights Commissioner about this: My colleague visited Alexander Kinev today and told him that Alexander started a hunger strike at the weekend. He was transferred to cell No. 213, the largest in Medved, intended for 34 people, but there are 35 prisoners in it. There is a hole in the floor instead of a toilet, and because of the cast on his leg that is broken in two places, he cannot go to the toilet. That's why he doesn't eat. We have taken all possible measures to ensure that he will be transferred today to conditions suitable for his health condition. On September 25, the Perovsky District Court in Moscow detained Kinev for two months. He is charged with Article "G" in Part 4 of Art. 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - attempt to sell drugs on a large scale, which allows up to 20 years in prison. He pleaded not guilty. After his arrest, Kinev was diagnosed with two fractures of the tibia, which, according to our data, were the result of torture. He was put in a cast and his condition was assessed as moderate. He was in the hospital at the detention center in Troskie Tishina. On October 16, Kinev was transferred to the Medved-4 pre-trial detention center. In a letter to the journalist Galev Yarovoi, he said that he was still at Gibbs; He still has about three weeks left to walk, but he can't move - he didn't have crutches. Now he is in quarantine, and almost no information about the outside world reaches him, including official information. Last week the court in the city of Moscow rejected his appeal against the contraceptive measures. During the hearing, Judge Nikishina, in a raised voice, tried to get Kanev to admit that he resisted the police during his arrest. Kinev is a well-known expert in electoral and regional politics, headed the analytical department of the "Voice" movement, and taught at the Higher School of Economics. In February 2026, he was included by the Ministry of Justice in the "Foreign Agents" register.
