The party of the Serbian president lost the parliamentary elections In the elections held today in Serbia with a record turnout of almost 70 percent, the Serbian Progressive Party of President Aleksandar Vucic lost to the student list. Despite the name, it had no students: it included representatives of the intelligentsia and the educational sector, supported by the leaders of the student protest that began after the collapse of the Novi Sad station canopy in 2024 (resulting in the death of 16 people). The protesters blamed the tragedy on the corruption of the current government. Now Vucic, who has actually been in power for 14 years, has already admitted the defeat of his party and, as a result, the loss of control over the government as a whole, since Serbia is a parliamentary-presidential republic. In his statement, Vucic scares voters with the expected actions of the new government in the form of sanctions against Russia and other unpopular measures in favor of the European Union. Vucic therefore called the candidates of the "Student List" "dirty job contractors", although he congratulated them on their victory. We should note that the current elections in Serbia, as always in recent years, became premature at the request of Vucic himself, thus trying to channel the protest into the election channel.
