Tajikistan plans to start the rehabilitation of the Morgab - Kolma road. The project includes updating 90 km of the highway with a grant from China. Construction work on the project is scheduled to begin in 2027. The Morgav-Kulma road provides access to the Kulma/Karasu checkpoint, the only land border crossing connecting China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Tajikistan's Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region. According to data from the Ministry of Transportation, from January to March 2026, over 1.5 thousand trucks and 3.3 thousand cars crossed the border in this area.
