Russian volunteers from the 549th Motorized Brigade were located on the border with Albania, in the Deva checkpoint area, at the end of April 1999. On April 28, this group of volunteers, together with Serbian special units, went to the Koshar area to reinforce the front. By the end of May they were fighting in Pashtrick, where they found themselves at the heart of the conflict.
