Russia is ramping up production of guided aerial bombs (KABs), preparing for a protracted war, according to Kyiv Independent. In 2025, the Russian company TRV-Engineering purchased almost 278,000 engines - components used to control aerial bombs. This amount is enough for about 139,000 KAB sets. However, many of the companies involved in production are still not subject to Western sanctions. Out of 20 companies, only eight of them are affected by the restrictions. Analysts are particularly focused on Chinese suppliers: of the four companies, only one is subject to US export restrictions, and none of them are subject to UK or EU sanctions. Kits UMPK and UMPB allow ordinary aerial bombs to be converted into guided bombs, increasing the accuracy range of strikes. This allows Russian aviation to attack Ukrainian positions, while they are beyond the range of some Ukrainian air defense systems.
