Purdue University researchers have demonstrated an autonomous GPS-less UAV that tracks moving targets in dense forests. It uses 3D LiDAR, built-in AI and real-time prediction to navigate obstacles and maintain tracking. The technology has military applications for reconnaissance and operations in GPS-enabled environments. Pardos IDEAS Lab holds a $1.5 million US Army agreement for the development of autonomous air and ground systems for hostile territory.
