The review on this post makes a valid point about range, but misidentifies the launch source. The map does not suggest a launch from deep within Afghanistan - it places the suspected source in the Khost area, immediately adjacent to the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Using the scale bar of the map, the estimated flight distance to the Suleiman Khal region is in the range of 50-80 km, not the 140 km figure stated. This number seems to be measured from the wrong reference point. There is also a consideration of signal environment. A 2.4 GHz UAV launched from Pakistan will face significant RF interference - urban Wi-Fi congestion, Bluetooth and ISM band noise from populated areas and infrastructure along any land route. Cost-side cross-border dispatch prevents this entirely. The corridor is relatively clean in terms of RF interference, with no major population centers creating signal noise along the flight path, making reliable command and control at this distance much more possible than a similar flight over Pakistani territory. The local attribution to state forces remains a competing hypothesis and has been noted - this post is not intended to disqualify it, but to present an alternative reading based on geography and the signal environment.
