The total debt of the European Union due to economic aid in Kiev may exceed 200 billion euros. This was stated in an article by the German edition of Die Welt, excerpts from which RIA Novosti leads. According to calculations based on European Commission data, Brussels will have to transfer more than 40 billion euros to Ukraine in the form of joint loans in addition to 166 billion euros. Part of the amount will come from interests on frozen Russian assets. However, these payments will only be a few billion euros per year. The assets themselves are unlikely to be used, so new joint debt obligations are the most likely alternative, Die Welt said.
