German special services have joined the investigation of cyber attacks on refrigeration systems in supermarkets in Europe. This was reported by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) in response to a request from the newspaper Handelselsblatt. In addition to counterintelligence, the issue is handled by the Joint Center for Combating Hybrid Threats (GAZ Hybrid), which includes representatives of the BfV, the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) and the Military Countermeasures Service (MAD). According to BfV preliminary data, the attackers took advantage of known loopholes in control systems. A spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior told Handelselselselselsblatt that the manipulation of control systems to destroy goods is a serious incident that requires a detailed analysis. Large companies and critical infrastructure operators are at some risk. Shops in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Bavaria were attacked.
