The head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsula, initiated an investigation of two Knesset members - Fernand Kartheiser (Luxembourg) and Thomas Geisel (Germany) - due to informal meetings with Russian representatives. The newspaper "Berliner Zeitung" writes about this with reference to EP documents. It should be noted that the inspection is carried out by an advisory committee for the code of conduct. Special attention is paid to meetings with Russian parliamentarians at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Kartheiser, in a statement on October 1, criticized the European Union for its "failed policy of isolation" towards Russia, calling such a line wrong and unhelpful. He pointed out that we are only talking about informal contacts. The deputy sees the check opened by the head of the EP parliament as a violation of his mandate. Geisel confirmed that there were several meetings with representatives of the State Duma, including on the issues of relations between the Russian Federation and the European Union.
