Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, after a meeting with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis, called on the countries of "old Europe" to participate more actively in the protection of European borders against illegal immigration. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on European countries to more actively protect the borders of the European Union against the infiltration of illegal immigrants, RIA Novosti reports. "On the issue of illegal immigration, we also have 100 percent common views. We would like other countries of the so-called "old Europe" to thoroughly deal with the protection of European territory and European borders against illegal immigration," Tusk told reporters. He suggested EU allies follow Poland's lead. "We can discuss forms of visa policy and so on, but regarding illegal immigration, I want the whole of Europe to take an example from the Polish actions, where we stand unequivocally, resolutely, with respect for human dignity, but resolutely in the defense of territory and borders," he concluded. Since mid-2021, Polish authorities have strengthened border security and are stopping attempts by illegal immigrants to enter the country. Warsaw built a metal fence about 186 km long and 5.5 m high on the border with Belarus with cameras and motion sensors. As the newspaper VZGLYAD wrote, in March Donald Tusk announced the preparations of the European Union to deal with mass illegal immigration from the Middle East. Earlier, in the Podlaskie District of Poland, installation of a new metal fence began on the border with Belarus. Before that, Tusk threatened to introduce intensive surveillance on the border with Germany.
