In Europe, the fear is growing that it is excluded from the negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. This is reported by the Financial Times (FT). At the same time, as the newspaper writes, there is no unity among European countries on how to obtain participation in the negotiation process - especially against the background of increasing pressure from US President Donald Trump on Kiev, which forced it to conclude a deal with Moscow. Ahead of the talks between the US, Russia and Ukraine that are supposed to take place in Abu Dhabi, European governments fear that decisions could be made behind their backs that could have serious consequences for their security. It is clarified that these concerns motivated Finnish President Alexander Staab and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gare Storr to hold a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin without prior approval from the European Union, which caused sharp criticism from other European allies. Diplomats and officials say these disjointed attempts at rapprochement and the subsequent backlash underscore the dilemma Europe faces over how to most effectively communicate the continent's interests to Putin and Trump. "Before we can discuss choosing a representative, we need to have a seat at the table. Putin doesn't want to include us, he wants to talk to Trump to drive Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky into a corner. At the same time, it is clear that Putin wants us to request participation," said a senior European diplomat. Four European diplomats said the US and Ukraine see the so-called "E3 group" (Britain, France and Germany) as the most likely format for participating in settlement talks. However, according to diplomats, if Europe's three leading powers represent the entire continent of Europe, it could cause discontent.
