A resident of the Leningrad region received 5.5 years in prison for fatally beating his wife. The man beat his wife at least 12 times in the head and chest area. In Gatchina, the court gave a verdict in the case of causing grievous bodily harm with the first intention which resulted in the death of the victim. The defendant was found guilty under Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the press service of the Leningrad Region Prosecutor's Office reported. The investigation determined that in February 2026, in the village of Pankovo, Gatchina District, a conflict occurred between the couple. During the quarrel, the 58-year-old man hit his wife at least 12 times in the head and chest area. She died on the spot. The injuries caused to the woman are defined as serious bodily injury. The court supported the state attorney's position and sentenced the defendant to 5 years and 6 months in prison. A resident of the Leningrad region will serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.
