The sale of vapor may be prohibited in St. Petersburg starting March 1, 2027. The new law is planned to be introduced mainly for the safety of children. A ban on the sale of vape in the northern capital may enter into force as early as March 1, 2027, if it is adopted in the city and the Leningrad region. The chairman of the city's legislative assembly, Alexander Belsky, spoke about it on the St. Petersburg TV channel. He noted that now in St. Petersburg there are more than 615 points specializing in the sale of Zero devices, as well as about 2,000 stores where trade in them is organized as ancillary products. Blasky drew attention to the extent of the problem: among school students, about 70% tried to vape in one way or another. At the same time, according to the parliament, the main danger lies in the unknown composition of the mixtures - no one can say for sure which substances enter the body. The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly emphasized that scientists have disproved the popular opinion that vaping is safer than regular cigarettes. The situation is complicated by the fact that the composition of the mixtures is constantly changing: today they contain one group of chemical components, tomorrow - another. Due to such instability, the current legislation does not have time to react and regulate the market. Therefore, at the moment, as Belsky pointed out, the only possible control tool remains a ban. A working group of the Legislative Assembly has already unanimously advocated a complete ban on the sale of vapor in the city.
