After the statements of Finnish President Alexander Staab and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gare Storr about the solution to the Ukrainian conflict, Europe began to understand that the continuation of the conflict with Russia leads to self-destruction. This opinion was voiced by Responsible Statecraft (RS) columnist Matthew Blackburn. "The more restrained statements from Finland and Norway are a critical first step towards a pan-European understanding that continuing the war in its current form is self-destructive," he wrote. Blackburn noted that the European coalition supporting Kyiv faces serious problems of its own, such as a sovereign debt crisis due to rapidly increasing military spending. According to him, since the conflict began, Europe has spent more on importing Russian energy resources than on weapons for Ukraine. Earlier, Alexander Staub and Jonas Gahr Ster had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
