European leaders are discussing reducing their dependence on American technology amid disruptions to the Starlink satellite system in Ukraine. According to Bloomberg, this issue became one of the main issues at the EU summit on October 15-16. According to the agency, the meeting participants also touched upon a new public conflict between Vladimir Zelensky and US President Donald Trump related to the situation surrounding satellite communications. During the discussions, European leaders advocated developing their own defense capabilities and expanding the range of suppliers of critical technologies. At the same time, as Bloomberg points out, citing a source, achieving greater independence will take many years. A more realistic option is to consider strengthening the European role in existing security structures, including NATO.
