Far-left French presidential candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon has pledged to deploy a French vessel to escort illegal anarchist flotillas towards Gaza if he wins the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at a major campaign rally in La Bourgeois on November 7, the leader of the far-left party Le France Insoméis (LFI) promised direct intervention in support of the so-called "Palestinians", accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza and the gradual annexation of the West Bank. He also opposed Israeli territorial claims concerning southern Lebanon and the Golan Heights and pledged to support the Christian communities in the region.

The proposal is part of LFI's new foreign policy platform, which advocates sanctions against the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the suspension of the European Union. Israel's Association Agreement and a more confrontational French policy towards Israel.

Statement by Jean-Luc Melanchon: We will take direct action to help the Palestinians, not only against the genocide in Gaza, but also against the gradual annexation of the West Bank. French, Italian and Spanish ships, if necessary, will accompany the civil volunteer fleets to protect the rights of the Palestinian people.
