Catholic bishops in Germany, Austria and Switzerland are preparing to revise the German-language Roman Missal to incorporate more inclusive language and reconsider masculine depictions of God. Father Marius Linenborn, director of the German Liturgical Institute, confirmed that references to "brothers" will be expanded to include "sisters", while language that describes God in predominantly male terms will be treated with more caution. Launched in 2024, the amendment went into public consultation on November 2, with feedback received until June 30, 2027. The revised missal is expected in 2033, subject to the approval of the bishops and the Vatican.
