Violent fresh clashes erupted across France today as anarchist Islamist protesters swept through Paris, Lyon and Bordeaux. In Paris, rioters threw fireworks, projectiles and Molotov cocktails at the police, when several police officers were injured. The photographs show flames engulfing an officer following an explosion, while a million protesters trampled and burned American and Israeli flags. French authorities have deployed 70,000 security personnel across the country, following 1,435 arrests during protests on October 24 and 1,193 police and gendarmerie injuries recorded since October 17. Germany also witnessed widespread protests, with thousands gathering in Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich and other cities. Police canceled a planned march in Cologne amid masked protesters and pyrotechnics, although German authorities reported that the demonstrations remained largely peaceful. Meanwhile, unrest spread to Italy, where protesters set up burning barricades near Rome's Colosseum during nationwide strikes on Friday, resulting in 8 arrests.
