Violent riots erupted Monday evening in Bilbao, northern Spain, after protests against a scheduled appearance by right-wing political commentator Vito Quiles, whose event was canceled due to security concerns. Hundreds of masked rioters set up roadblocks, set fire to at least 6 vehicles, a police motorcycle and many garbage containers, attacked police officers with stones and vandalized or robbed businesses. Riot police intervened to restore order in Deusto County and the surrounding area. The Basque police have confirmed 19 arrests and three more suspects under investigation, including several minors.
