Jordanian airstrikes in southern Syria last night killed 8 civilians, including 3 children, a woman and the elderly, according to the Syrian authorities. Among the victims were 5 members of one family who were hiding in a tent in Daraa district. At least 4 others were injured. Jordan's military said the operation was targeting terror suspects linked to Friday's deadly attack on a Greek Orthodox church in Karak, Jordan, which killed 9 people. Amman said its strikes killed militants and were coordinated with the Syrian government. However, Damascus officially denied any prior coordination, protested the attacks and launched an investigation. Jordan has not publicly identified the targeted organizations or provided evidence linking the civilian casualties to militant activity. Syria has closed the Nassib border crossing with Jordan, suspending passenger and trade traffic, while diplomatic contacts continue.
