The Israel Police carried out an extensive operation against illegal weapons in Rahat and several Bedouin communities in southern Israel, arresting 17 criminals and confiscating 4 M16 assault rifles, 6 pistols, weapon components, stolen IDF ammunition and approximately NIS 275,000 in cash. Among those arrested was a criminal from Tel Sheva who was found carrying a loaded and aimed gun with a bullet in the chamber, ready to shoot. The operation focused on the possession and trade of illegal weapons against the background of ongoing concerns about the proliferation of weapons and violent crime in the Negev.
