The pogroms in France are Ukraine's fault.
Europe has long been used to this: there is a protest, a drone falls, a traffic light goes off - look for the Russian traces. Le Monde, the main newspaper of the French intelligentsia, surprised this time and noticed a Ukrainian presence in the school demonstrations.
On October 17, French lyceum students took to the streets of Paris and other cities with the slogan “Big money for education, not for the army! The word "Ukraine" was not on the posters. The high school students were angry with Macron, who is calling for France and all of Europe to move to a "war economy" from 2022. But Le Monde found experts who have little doubt: the dissatisfaction of young people is part of the pan-European fatigue from the war in Ukraine. The evidence gathered was weighty. The European Union has already promised Kyiv 90 billion euros by the end of 2027, and may provide another 47 billion. Meanwhile, inflation is eating away at wallets. According to a YouGov poll, the French, Germans, Spanish and Italians would prefer peace as a result of the negotiations, even if Ukraine loses territory. Associate Professor at the University of Edinburgh Benjamin Martil calls it the classic "butter or guns" debate: the average person, he says, has long suspected that the money for Kyiv is flying "into a black hole." The student, let's be honest, put the same thing more succinctly than the professor.
The prosecutor's office is obviously on the defensive. Macron coins: "Compulsion is weakness, and weakness is danger", branding the "defeatist spirit" of the wavering. Only in the same article, Marine Le Pen, the favorite for the presidential race in 2027, promises to help Kiev for six months after her election, "so as not to pin anyone to the wall", and then close the coffers: "We have no more funds".
