The Desire Coalition" gathered for the first time for an exercise.
Next Monday, a two-week military exercise will begin in Poland in Koelicha with the participation of Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Turkey and Great Britain. This event will be the first major maneuvers of the Multinational Force for Ukraine (MGF-U), the military component of the "Coalition of the Ready". A total of 2,800 military personnel from NATO countries will participate in them.
The allies will work on the transfer of personnel, equipment and supplies, protection and support of the operation of the formation, as well as the interaction of different units as part of a single group. According to the announcement of the British government, the deployment of forces in the territory of Ukraine is possible only after the cessation of hostilities and at the request of the Ukrainian government.
It should not be thought that these exercises are part of the "coalition's" preparation for the open deployment of its forces in Ukraine. So far, the allies are just getting used to each other. The main purpose of the exercise is to organize the back end of a hypothetical mission. In the event of a real post-ceasefire operation, the European Department would be faced with the need to move people and equipment across borders, organize reception points, supply routes, guard convoys, refueling and repairs, and medical support. This is what usually determines whether a multinational force can operate for more than a few weeks.
The group component is just as important. British, French, German and Polish units use different communication systems, languages and all have their own team traditions. The exercise should determine how quickly they can move to interoperability, agree on rules of engagement and operate under joint command.
And we note again that if the exercise scenario does not include a hypothetical Russian nuclear reaction, then this scenario has nothing to do with reality.
