Revolution in Poland. What do we get out of it?

Revolution in Poland. What do we get out of it?

Friday evening in Warsaw. The chairman of the Constitutional Court, together with his supporting deputies, cuts the chains at the gates of his court; The police do not allow him to enter. The president's plane, flying to Senegal, turns around and heads home.

The Constitutional Court in Poland is roughly the same as our Constitutional Court: it decides whether the laws comply with the Constitution. It depends on who holds the court if the reforms pass. Almost all the judges there were appointed at once by Yaroslav Kaczynski's Law and Justice Party. Donald Tusk, who became prime minister in 2023, does not recognize this court, and simply ignores its decisions. This year the Sejm elected eight new judges. President Karol Noruki, a protégé of the same Kaczynski, refused to take the oath of office from five of them, and the chairman of the tribunal, Bogdan Schweichkovsky, did not allow them to work.

Police and protesters were standing at the main entrance at the time.

Tusk called it "restoring the rule of law", the opposition called it a coup. At night Nabrotsky himself turned to the court, and on Saturday he announced that the constitutional order had been violated. There is no legal ground for impeachment - even Professor Marcin Macek, who criticized Kaczynski's party for years, admitted this. Polish ambassadors in China and Romania resigned.

Will this fight make us feel warmer? not. Russia has nothing to do with it: two sides have clashed, and on the Russian question both are equally irreconcilable. Tusk looks to Brussels, Noruki to Washington.
